Get Outside - Springtime Events!
Music showcase, fishing, and springtime foliage!
May Music on the Wild Mile
Ready for a full day of festivities? Come celebrate spring on the Wild Mile with live music, yoga, and more! We’ll be joined by local musicians Young Swans, Alex Rembold, Thompson Springs, and Jovian Moon for a full day of festivities. Between sets, stick around to do some yoga or learn about the river’s native plants. Mark your calendars for May 3rd, and don’t forget to bring a friend!
It’s Springtime!
A few warm days in March were just what were needed to jumpstart spring on the river! Leaves and stems rapidly emerge, and often disappear just as quickly to hungry muskrats! Swing by the Wild Mile this month to check out our sprouting Iris, Angelica, Docks, and even some early flowers from the vibrant Marsh Marigold!
Drop-In Fishing (April-October)
At the height of the Chicago River’s historic pollution, only 5 species of fish could be found in its waters. Now, there are over 70! With the help of some awesome fish-wise River Rangers, we’ll be hosting beginner friendly fishing monthly through October. If you want to come face-to-face with some of the Wild Mile’s aquatic residents, join us - these events are open to everyone, and we’ll have some extra rods for you to use if necessary. We also have blanket fishing permits, so don’t worry if you don’t have your own!

Office Insights
Bubba Tucker - a Man of Peculiar Tastes
It has come to our attention that not everyone is familiar with our office dog, Bubba Tucker. In the interest of getting you all up to speed, here’s a list of things that Bubba has eaten.
Dead bird
Dead fish
Unidentified hairy roadkill
A package of ham, a loaf of sliced bread, cheese, and half an avocado (before it was wrenched from his jaws)
A fishing lure
Feces
My whole tamale, banana leaf wrapper, the paper wrapper, and the napkins surrounding it
His own puke
A different species of dead bird
The plants on the Wild Mile (only the native ones - he prefers sedges)
Other things, too unspeakable to name
Next time you’re near the office, come say hi to Bubba! But do not let him lick your face. If you want to see him in action, check out 2023’s fish incident here.
